About Our Opportunity
This is a term position in our Water Resource Management Branch working alongside a dynamic and diverse team of passionate scientists, engineers and technicians whose work drives the protection and stewardship of our province's water resources.
As a Water Resource Engineer, you assist in leading the Department's efforts to manage and protect Nova Scotia's water resources. This role offers the opportunity to guide provincial programs, support regulatory decision:making, and shape policy.
You will analyze complex environmental issues while providing technical information, advice, and interpretation of environmental laws and regulations to support effective regulatory management and environmental protection.
Primary Accountabilities
As a Water Resource Engineer on our team, you will be responsible for:
:
Participating in the development of regulatory amendments, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures and internal training tools to support program outcomes related to water resources management, including surface water, storm water, watercourse alterations and erosion and sediment control.
:
Reviewing and evaluating technical reports in support of regulatory approvals including the review of environmental assessments.
:
Providing expertise and professional advice to management and staff to meet departmental objectives and to achieve consistent, province:wide implementation and delivery of programs.
:
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to contribute to the vision, long term goals and strategies for advancing the department's approach to water resources and sustainable management solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
:
You have a Bachelor of Engineering and are eligible to be registered with Engineers Nova Scotia as an Engineer or Engineer:in:training.
:
Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (verbal, written) are critical to interact with and communicate strategic and technical concepts across a range of audiences.
:
Administratively self:sufficient with strong computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing and presentation packages.
The following would be considered assets:
:
Relevant experience in water resources engineering, hydrology, environmental engineering, and environmental quality monitoring.
:
Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, regulations policies and programs relevant to water management in Nova Scotia.
:
Experience in the design and/or construction of culverts, hydraulic structures, surface water management systems and/or erosion and sediment controls.
:
Experience in managing spatial datasets and using spatial analysis software, such as ArcGIS suite.
