Sciences Campus:University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Description: Position Type : Sessional Lecturer I Course Title : PHY325H5 - Mathematical and Computational Physics Course Description : The theory and application of mathematical methods for the physical sciences. Topics may include: vector calculus, linear algebra applied to coordinate transformations, probability distributions, systems of linear ordinary and partial differential equations and boundary value problems, Fourier analysis and orthogonal functions, the Heat and Wave equations in various coordinate systems, and the use of Legendre polynomials and Spherical Bessel functions. Computational methods and standard software tools will be used to solve complex physics problems. Qualifications : Ph.D. in relevant area of Physics. Currency and mastery of subject area required as demonstrated by high:quality recent research experience (within the past four years), past teaching experience, and excellence in teaching a similar course. Applicants should demonstrate teaching excellence by providing documentation in the form of student surveys, letters, or other appropriate pieces of evidence. Excellent candidates otherwise considered to be equivalently qualified may be asked to present a sample lecture on a topic from the course, and performance in such a lecture will be considered important in the final assessment. Description of Duties : All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including but not limited to preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and examinations, calculations and submission of grades, provide direction and supervision of TAs, and holding regular office hours.
