CUPE Local 3902 (Unit 3) Job Posting Sessional Lecturer Position Posting Date: May 2, 2025 Program: Master of Health Informatics (MHI) Sessional Dates of Appointment: Fall 2025, Winter 2026, Spring/Summer 2026 Course Title: MHI2005Y (Health Informatics Practicum) Course Description: MHI2005Y is a practicum for the MHI program. The practicum is the applied learning component of the Master of Health Informatics education. The overall objective of the practicum is to broaden the student's appreciation for and skills in managing health services organizations by allowing students to evaluate, test and further develop their competencies in a practical setting. From May:August, every MHI student participates in a full:time (600 hour) professional practicum placement that counts for 20 of degree credits (2 FCE). The practicum provides learners with the opportunity to build on MHI course learning and to employ related problem:solving skills. By the start of the practicum, students will have completed more than 250 hours of in:class graduate education, in addition to workshops and projects. The overall objective of the practicum is to provide an opportunity for students the theory and knowledge gained in course work, directly in a health care related organization. MHI2010H supports students' ongoing learning and contribution at practicum placement sites. It is offered in the fall term (Sept. : Dec.) on the course instructor's approval of an invitation of preceptors to students to continue their study. The course is designed to be conducted primarily online, and to build on work and reflection to date, as achieved via MHI2005Y. The fieldwork is seen as incremental and developmental, being adaptable to the individual student's needs, and building on their work experience. Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: : Articulate their individual strengths as related to the field in general and to specific work opportunities : Produce a resume and cover letter well:suited to the health informatics work environment : Identify their own learning needs and design a learning contract that will address those needs. : Complete the activities outlined in the learning contract, as negotiated with their preceptor and course instructor. : Optimize their learning opportunities by reflection, through their learning journal and discussions with the preceptor and course instructor. : Evaluate their professional strengths and development needs for successful career progression through self:reflection. : Understand the key components of successful career planning in a healthcare environment. Estimated enrolment: 60 students across three terms Estimated TA support: Based on enrolment : None Qualifications: : A PhD or Masters level with experience in strategic planning and stakeholder relations in healthcare; : A robust understanding of professional development and project management. : Demonstrably strong organizational and communications skills. : Teaching experience related to professional development and experiential learning, preferably at the graduate level; : Prior experience in curriculum development and adult teaching:learning methods is an asset; : Comfortable with electronic teaching tools such as Learning Management Systems (e.g., Quercus) : Well:connected to organizations within the health care industry.
