Req ID:26770 Vacancy Type: Permanent Number of Positions:1 Closing Date:07/22/2025 Job Summary Reporting to the Chief Building Official and Director of Building, the Manager, Zoning and Zoning Administrator is responsible for the interpretation and administration of the City of Mississauga Zoning By:law. This role involves implementing a program to facilitate the efficient and effective application of the zoning provisions related to City approval processes. The Manager will organize and coach the team to align with the departmental vision of continuous improvement and innovation, applying this approach to the review of development applications and building permits for compliance with zoning provisions. They will ensure that all municipal Zoning By:laws and other applicable laws under the Ontario Building Code are interpreted and enforced accurately and consistently, while also supporting other areas of the organization in the interpretation and application of the Zoning By:law. Duties and Responsibilities stylemargin:top:0.0in;margin:bottom:0.0in typedisc: : Appointed by Council and charged with the Interpretation and Administration of the Citys Zoning By:law. : Organize, coach and motivate the team of Zoning Examiners to support the organization in building the City of Mississauga in accordance with the Zoning policies. : Support the organization in the interpretation and application of the Zoning By:law and help to develop a program that ensures consistent and efficient delivery of services. : Manage staff to ensure that the desired service delivery levels are achieved and work with the Director to adjust resources and programs as necessary when needed. : Mediate differences of opinion regarding Zoning By:law, and responsible for delivery of City decisions. : Provide written and/or verbal responses to zoning inquires to all levels of staff, ensuring staff are informed of all by:law amendments, new policies and procedures in a rapidly changing legislative environment. : Attend Ontario Provincial Offences Court and Ontario Municipal Board as an expert witness on behalf of the City of Mississauga. Skills and Qualifications : Post secondary degree in Planning/Architecture/Engineering or related discipline is an asset : Minimum 5 years' supervisory experience, preferably in the building or development industry : Minimum 10 years working in a Municipal Zoning/Building Department. : Excellent working knowledge of the application and administration of Zoning By:laws, applicable law under the Ontario Building Code and other related Provincial Laws. : Thoroughly familiar with the interpretation of zoning provisions and, plan examination procedures, applying analytical and problem solving skills. : In:depth knowledge of municipal approval processes and interconnectivity with other organizational processes in areas such as Economic Development, Compliance and Licensing, Committee of Adjustment and Design and Development. : Able to work and manage staff in a hybrid environment.
