About the Opportunity The Urology Associate Physician is a licensed physician employed by Nova Scotia Health to provide medical care under the supervision of a fully licensed physician. They will have clearly defined clinical duties within the Department of Urology in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The Urology Associate Physician would primarily be responsible for direct patient care activities under the supervision of an attending Urologist. Participation in the call schedule is required. The Associate Physician will report directly to Associate Physician Program Director or designate and indirectly to the Central Zone Executive Medical Director through the Director of Medical Affairs, NSH. Clinical Responsibilities : Makes regular rounds with supervising staff, fellows, and residents on the wards, the emergency department and in the ICU as required : Works with attending staff, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, social workers, physiotherapists, physician house staff, and other members of the health care team in the development and delivery of the overall patient care program : Communicates with patients, families, referring and family physicians concerning patient management plans : Performs and documents admission history, physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, death certificates, medication reconciliations : Manages the day:to:day care of patients, including writing medical orders and consultations of other services and responding to emergencies in hospital : If competency to do so, the AP will conduct assessments of patients in the emergency room and in:house patient consultations to Urology : Performs procedures within the scope of demonstrated competence including: the insertion of peripheral intravenous lines, initiation of intravenous medication, taking blood samples for diagnostic purposes or arterial blood gases, insertion of Foley catheters, insertion of nasogastric tubes, assessment of surgical wounds, suturing of surgical wounds, removal of sutures, removal of surgical drains and nephrostomy tubes, and insertion/removal of central venous catheters. : If competency to do so the AP may perform management of difficult catheterization including flexible cystoscopy/dilation of strictures/insertion of a catheter over guidewire : Assists in the operating room when on call or when no residents are available during the day : Arranges consultations with other departments/
