We examine the roots of Engaged Buddhism in countries such as Vietnam, China and Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and India, and its transformation into a global movement. Themes include Buddhist environmental activism, and Buddhist protest movements, along with research on the application of Buddhist teachings in healthcare, education, business, and the criminal justice system. Enrolment Estimate: 100 students Estimated TA Support: 165 hours Class Schedule: Lecture: Wednesdays 10:00 AM : 1:00 PM Salary: Sessional Lecturer I: 9,820.70 Sessional Lecturer I (Long:term): 10,510.04 Sessional Lecturer II: 10,510.04 Sessional Lecturer II (Long:term): 10,760.28 Sessional Lecturer III: 10,760.28 Sessional Lecturer III (Long:term): 11,030.36 Note: This course will be delivered in an online synchronous format. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department Minimum Qualifications Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. (or equivalent) in an area related to Buddhist Studies and/or the interactions between Buddhism and Psychology. Teaching experience required. Preferred Qualifications Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred. Responsibilities Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
