CUPE Local 3902 (Unit 3) Job Posting Sessional Lecturer Position Posting Date: May 2, 2025 Program: Master of Health Informatics (MHI) Sessional Dates of Appointment: Fall 2025, September to December Course Title: MHI1001H : Information and Communication Technology for Health Care Course Description (Updated) This course introduces the foundational concepts of digital infrastructure in healthcare, tailored for students from health sciences backgrounds with limited formal experience in information technology. Through hands:on learning and real:world case studies, students will explore the digital building blocks that enable modern healthcare delivery. Topics will include cloud computing, APIs, HL7 FHIR interoperability standards, cybersecurity and privacy in healthcare, artificial intelligence and machine learning basics, and the role of modern user interfaces in health applications. The course emphasizes practical understanding of how these technologies underpin digital health systems and enable innovation in care delivery, data sharing, and patient empowerment. Learning Objectives (Updated) By the end of the course, students will be able to: : Describe how cloud platforms and modern APIs enable secure, scalable health service delivery. : Engage in informed discussions about the architecture of emerging digital health tools (e.g., virtual care platforms, AI:enabled clinical decision support). : Apply system modeling techniques to propose and critique ICT:enabled healthcare workflows. : Assess the benefits and risks of interoperability, privacy, and security mechanisms in real:world healthcare settings. : Use common digital health tools and standards, including FHIR and SNOMED CT, to explore system design. Instructor Qualifications (Updated) : Graduate:level training (Master's or PhD) in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field. : Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: digital health system architecture, healthcare data standards (e.g., HL7 FHIR, SNOMED CT), cybersecurity, or AI in health applications. : Experience teaching or mentoring at the graduate level, with a focus on interdisciplinary learning. : Familiarity with modern teaching methods, including flipped classrooms, digital labs, and real:time collaboration platforms (e.g., Miro, Slack, GitHub, or Zoom breakout activities). : Proficiency with digital learning environments (e.g., Quercus or other LMS platforms), and creating interactive, media:rich content.
