Roles and Competencies: To produce and production check Signalling design details including but may not be limited to, Scheme / Signalling plans, Control Tables, location diagrams, cable core plans, power schematics and interlocking wiring / data, ensuring all work produced under his / her control is done so with strict adherence to relevant standards and codes of practice. * The Post holder has the responsibility for the utilisation and technical guidance of Junior and Assistant Design Engineers within the Signalling Design function. * The Post holder will also be required to independently check less complex Signalling Design details. * Competent to produce Outline Project and Signalling Design Specifications. To produce signalling details usually as part of a multidisciplinary team with respect to prefeasibility and feasibility reports and present fundamental findings of the report to the client. * Carry out Signalling infrastructure condition assessment surveys and site surveys and act as department liaison when other engineering disciplines and client representatives are involved. * Act as department representative when providing design cover of signalling projects during the commissioning phase. Assist with testing and commissioning when required. Assume role as required of signalling Project Engineer for small to medium sized projects ensuring financial and project targets are met in association with the Project Manager. * Relevant experience permitting the Post holder must have the relevant aptitude to be seconded to client premises to fulfil the position of Consultant Engineer or Project Engineer. * Represent the company at client meetings; trade shows or other events that have signalling related issues. * Assist in the production of Signalling related quality and safety related procedures. To deputise for Senior Design Engineer (experience permitting) as required. Personnel Specification: * The Design engineer will be capable of designing or modifying signalling systems from a user specification, to comply with the applicable standards and regulations. Has obtained an IRSE Designer licence or is working towards one. * Engineering background and training * Good computer skills and knowledge of CAD and computer office applications. Performance Measures: Consistently produces quality work without the need for direct supervision.
