Project Overview: Bechtel Mining and Metals offers engineering, procurement, and construction services for customers in the mining sector across multiple commodities including Iron Ore, Bauxite, Alumina, Aluminium, Copper, Gold, Coal, Lithium and Rare Earths markets. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, the M and M global business unit also has offices in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide in Australia along with execution units in the United States, Peru, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, India and other project locations around the world Job Summary: Due to growth in our mining and metals business, an opportunity has become available in Brisbane for a Senior Legal Counsel. The role reports to the global Head of Legal for the mining and metals business unit, who is also based in Brisbane. The role will be primarily supporting activities in Asia Pacific and Europe and the Middle East, with a focus on Australia. This is a unique development opportunity to join one of the world's leading construction and engineering organizations and shape a senior in:house career in the construction sector in a collegiate team who work in a completely integrated manner with the businesses they support. Major Responsibilities: : Provide leadership on legal and commercial issues relating to prospects and projects in the Asia Pacific, Europe and Middle East Regions, including: Work closely with GBU Business Development and Management in structuring, preparing, negotiating, and concluding transactions for prospects and projects in those regions. : Advise and support GBU Management and project personnel on legal issues during the execution of projects. : Advise GBU Business Development and Management on the company's internal protocols and procedures to ensure that compliance is maintained. : The Senior Legal Counsel will work on transactions independently with GBU Business Development and Management and form an integral part of the regional business leadership team led by an experienced General Manager also located in Brisbane. The legal work associated with the position is typically complex and difficult : the matters to be addressed are often unique and require a high order of original and creative legal analysis for their resolution. Education and Experience Requirements: : A minimum of 8 years post qualification work experience with engineering and construction projects and related contract documents will be required : from a major law firm and/or major engineering, procurement, and construction firm. : Must hold a current legal practicing certificate from an Australian jurisdiction.
